"Unknown Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote Film" (c1953)-Background Signed by Maurice Noble

If you have not seen Rob Richard's Animation Backgrounds blog, it is amazing. I have never seen as many fantastic backgrounds in one place before! I've spent hours browsing through all the great art he has posted.

In Rob's posting, Maurice Noble was mentioned. All too often, the focus is on Disney but there was extremely fine and collectible art created at Warner, Fleischer and a host of other animation houses. This is especially true when a number of artists left Disney to start their own companies or joined other firms after the labor strike.

This Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote watercolor background (circa 1953) was painted by Maurice Noble and signed by him. What struck me was the fairly simple and angular style, bold color and lines that didn't compete with the main characters. I tried to put it in a frame that would make Noble's "pop" off the wall as it did on the silver screen.

----- DATABASE NOTES -----

Seller's notes: Finally, THE LAST of my signed Road Runner Maurice Noble, Road Runner & Coyote watercolor background layouts. It is story board size and was from a group of four that were the “best-of-the-best” of Maurice’s collection. I got two of the four and an ex partner of mine got the other two. This one was my favorites.
