"The Old Mill" (1937) - Storyboards by Tenggren

"The Old Mill" (1937) was the first film to use the multiplane camera. Besides the award for Best Cartoon, Walt Disney received a second Academy Award, a Scientific and Technical Class II plaque, for the design and application of the multiplane camera. Directed by Wilfred Jackson. A Silly Symphony cartoon. [Source: Disney.com]

Tenggren's work has a special "classical" look that is immediately striking. These two storyboards certainly don't look like "your father's cartoon!"

This storyboard certainly has a striking resemblance to VanGogh's "Starry Night!"
