Mary Blair Pastel Concepts
----- DATABASE NOTES -----
From “Melody Time: Once Upon A Wintertime” (1948). A very unusual series of pastel concept (story board) elements to the "Once Upon A Wintertime" program believed to have been drawn by Mary Blair. Very good and fresh. Total of 15 images. [Image: 15 sections (3 rows of 5).15-3/8"W x 12-3/8"H. Frame: 80"W x 41"H] Acquired 1993. SeqID-0097 8/4/2005
The storyboards look more like Bill Peet than Mary Blair. In any case, the boards are nice. I am also really enjoying the scrapbook with some great cels from a very hard to find movie!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right. Like I said, there is nothing specific on the sheets that would be evidence that these are Mary Blair items. However, the seller (who is well known in the field) indicated that it was a Blair item.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the cels! Someone wrote me asking if I'd seen some others. I started to realize that there just isn't much around...

I'd have to agree with Matterhorn. The art is fantastic, but Blair's style is quite different -- her cartoons are rougher yet her color palette is much brighter. Bill Peet is very likely. They reflect his tighter, animator style.
ReplyDeleteYour site is the most organized I've ever seen. Beautiful.
isn't a Pecos Bill storyboard like this?
